WHAT IS INSTAGRAM AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?<\/h2>\r\nInstagram is a social media of\u00a0sharing photos and videos\u00a0<\/strong>which revolutionized the way we communicate. Instagram, in fact, taught us that a picture is worth a thousand words. But let's take a step back. Launched on October 6, 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, Instagram began as a social network exclusively for photography. Within a few years, its user base grew so much that it became attractive to Mark Zuckerberg, the father of Facebook, who in 2012 decided to purchase Instagram for the modest sum of approximately\u00a01 billion dollars<\/strong>.\r\n\r\nWhat distinguishes Instagram from the other most famous social networks?<\/em>\r\n\r\nThe difference is that Instagram is purely\u00a0visual<\/strong>\u00a0And it doesn't allow you to share text statuses\u2014or rather, you can, but only if you post a photo or video. So, photo and selfie enthusiasts, get going: Instagram is the social network for you!\r\n

THE FEATURES OF INSTAGRAM<\/h2>\r\nInstagram is constantly evolving and integrating more and more features.\r\n

SHARING PHOTOS AND VIDEOS<\/h3>\r\nI just downloaded the application: what can I do with Instagram?<\/em>\r\n\r\nShare photos and videos, first and foremost! Instagram offers users the ability to:\r\n
    \r\n \t
  • post photos, preferably in square format (better still 1080 x 1080 px)<\/li>\r\n \t
  • post videos to the feed of up to 60 seconds<\/li>\r\n \t
  • write the\u00a0caption<\/strong>, i.e. the text of the post. I recommend, the caption must be short enough, otherwise the text will be brutally truncated in the feed.<\/li>\r\n \t
  • edit<\/strong>\u00a0photos and videos, applying filters (well there are 23!), cropping or combining various photos through predefined layouts<\/li>\r\n \t
  • to tag<\/strong>\u00a0users<\/li>\r\n \t
  • add the\u00a0geolocation<\/strong>\u00a0of posts<\/li>\r\n \t
  • And (at the end<\/em>) share photos or videos also on Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nNothing new so far, but there is a small observation to make. On Instagram, naturalness and spontaneity prevail: on this social network you will not find the\u00a0bordellume<\/em>\u00a0(if you don't know me, with "bordellume" I mean\u00a0casino<\/em>) of memes, cartoons, comics and Photoshopped photos typical of Facebook. Instagram, with its content, captures a\u00a0real life instant<\/strong>It's best not to forget this when creating marketing campaigns using this social network.\r\n

    THE FAMOUS STORIES OF INSTAGRAM<\/h3>\r\nInstagram makes way (not at all! very wide<\/em>) use of stories, inherited from Snapchat. Stories (\u201cstorie\u201d in Italian) are\u00a0temporary statuses<\/strong>\u00a0(photos, videos, live streams, or text) that users share with their followers and last for 24 hours. Even when sharing stories, you can apply filters and use native apps to edit videos, creating GIFs, boomerangs, or adding masks.\r\n

    THE NEW IGTV<\/h3>\r\nSince June 20, Instagram has made another powerful revolution: IGTV arrives, that is, Instagram TV!\r\n\r\nBut what is IGTV?<\/em>\r\n\r\nIt's Instagram's new platform for sharing full-screen videos, just like watching a mini TV on your smartphone or tablet. Once you're logged into IGTV, you'll find videos from the profiles you follow: the maximum length is usually 10 minutes, while influencers can post videos up to 60 minutes long.\r\n

    The #HASHTAG<\/h3>\r\nInstagram is the kingdom of #hashtags. The more, the better! The hashtag serves to\u00a0label a keyword<\/strong>, in order to improve user research.\r\n\r\nLet's take an example.<\/em>\r\n\r\nI'm an animal lover and would like to find animal photos. How can I do this? I'll use a hashtag to help me find them! So, in the search bar, I'll type:\u00a0#loveanimals,<\/em>\u00a0eg.\r\n\r\nAnd poof<\/em>! All results associated with the hashtag appear\u00a0#loveanimals<\/em>! Not only that: the hashtag also has astrategic importance<\/strong>\u00a0Don't underestimate them. We can leverage the most popular ones to gain visibility. But be careful: hashtags can be a double-edged sword. If you overuse them, your profile will look inconsistent.\r\n

    THE FOLLOW, THE FOLLOWER AND THE INFLUENCER<\/h3>\r\nIt almost seems like the beginning of a fairy tale: once upon a time there were followers, followers, and influencers\u2026? But let's start with a fundamental question:\u00a0how does the follow - follower interaction work?<\/em>\r\n\r\nUnlike Facebook, on Instagram there is no concept of "asking for friendship", but of the "follow", that is\u00a0follow a profile<\/strong>If you're particularly interested in a person or page, just click the "Follow" button to see their content. This makes you a follower of their profile. However, there is a catch.\u00a0an unwritten rule<\/strong>\u00a0Keep in mind: following must (or should) be reciprocal. If a profile starts following you, it would be a good and proper thing to follow them back. I say this because a denied follow can often lead to dislike. But now let's get to the point:\u00a0Who are these influencers?<\/em>\r\n\r\nI'll explain it to you better with a list (I want to be a precision, sorry!<\/em>) The influencer\r\n

    • creates content that can generate a lot\u00a0interactions<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t
    • knows how to use the right #hashtags to increase his own\u00a0visibility<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t
    • it is considered\u00a0credible and reliable<\/strong>\u00a0to such an extent that\u00a0to influence<\/em>\u00a0followers<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nMany brands rely on influencers, who are sometimes certainly more skilled at reaching the masses. While influencers are like mushrooms (they grow everywhere), they shouldn't be underestimated\u2014and here I'm going to make a point in their favor.
